Rise Up

" in large yellow block letters, and the entire image has the textured, slightly uneven quality characteristic of relief printing. The color palette is stripped down to just black and yellow, giving the composition an immediate graphic punch.

Washington DC has a long history as a site of public demonstration, and flag imagery has been central to protest culture for generations. The raised flag is one of the most universally understood symbols of collective action and civic voice. Collectors are drawn to this print for its directness.

Where many of Inciardi's subjects are quiet or domestic, this one carries energy and intention. The bold typography and the activist subject matter make it stand out within her catalog, and it appeals to collectors who want work that reflects a specific moment in urban civic life. It pairs naturally with her other New York and city-focused prints, particularly those documenting street-level culture and public space.

The yellow and black contrast also makes it visually compatible with her other high-contrast compositions, and collectors who focus on prints with a graphic design sensibility tend to seek it out. It documents not just a slogan but a visual artifact of a particular kind of urban political expression, and that specificity is part of what gives it staying power in a collection.
