About this print

The Vault take

This Ana Inciardi mini print places a cheerful yellow car squarely beneath a full-sized sailboat, the whole contraption stacked as if the most natural arrangement in the world. The sailboat dominates the upper two-thirds of the composition, its striped blue and white sails billowing against a plain background, with a wooden mast and a green and white hull resting on the car's roof. Behind the wheel of the small yellow vehicle sits a small animal figure, rendered in Inciardi's warm, sketchy line work with colored pencil filling in the forms.

The bottom of the print is hand-lettered "sail boat car" in lowercase, alongside the copyright line crediting R. Scarry Corp. AG and the year 2025.

The subject draws directly from the world of Richard Scarry, whose illustrated books featured absurd hybrid vehicles as central characters. Scarry's car-and-vessel mashups have been beloved by generations of children since the 1960s, and the sailboat car is among his most recognizable inventions. Collectors are drawn to this print because it captures a specific strain of nostalgic humor rooted in childhood picture books, occupying a different register than most of Inciardi's work while still carrying her characteristic hand-drawn quality.

It sits as part of her broader print series of licensed and collaborative subjects, giving collectors a way to connect her voice to iconic outside source material. The print pairs naturally with other character-driven or transportation-themed pieces in a collection, and works especially well displayed alongside subjects that share that same loose, affectionate drawing style.
